Online Holiday Shopping Trends Outlook – Strong!

Great news for small online business… Three out of four holiday shoppers said they plan to shop for holiday gifts online, and 75 percent said they are likely to purchase gifts online from small businesses. Nearly a third of holiday shoppers said that they would do half or more of their holiday shopping online, and nearly two thirds said online specialty, “niche,” or boutique retailers are one of the “best places” to shop for unusual or hard-to-find gifts.

80% of Shoppers to Shop Online?

More than eight out of ten holiday shoppers (83 percent) said they would shop for holiday gifts online, and a similar number, 80 percent, said they are likely to purchase gifts online from small businesses, according to a new survey commissioned by Yahoo! Small Business.

Asked how they might change, many shoppers indicated they would be on the road less and on the Web more. Here are a few of the trends uncovered:

Fewer shopping outings, better planning to reduce unnecessary use of gas – 45%
Shop online more – 43%
Make fewer shopping trips and spend less in general – 42%

Generation Y Likely to Spend More on Socially Responsible Products

Good news for socially responsible companies… the future is green! A recent survey by GMI that gauged the opinions of more than 15,000 online consumers in the U.S. and 16 other countries about their socially conscious business practices, found that future American consumers, between the ages of 18-29, are more likely to buy organic, environmentally-friendly or fair trade products than other age groups.
